My father died of a mining accident and mom sunk into depression, leaving me as the sole food provider for the family. I hunted in the woods for food with my friend Gale even though it was illegal. My sister was voted to participate in the Hunger Games and I volunteered in her place. I've survived the Hunger Games and hope never to face it ever again.

Personality:
After he vows never to slay again, he travels to Tokyo where he meets Kaoru Kamiya, Yahiko Myojin, Sanosuke Sagara and Miss Megumi (Don't know her first name! DX). Kenshin is targeted by many old enemies and has to fight them along the way, the most well known enemy being Makoto Shishio, who took Kenshin's place as an assassin when he left. During his fight with Shishio, he has to return to Kyoto and battle Shishio's army, the Juppongatana. In Kyoto he makes new friends called the Oniwaban group, including Aoshi Shinamori, Okina, and Misao Makamachi. In order to defeat the Juppongatana and Shishio, Kenshin completes his training and reforms a bond with his master, Seijuro Hiko XIII, and is eventually able to defeat Shishio.[/spoiler]

- Soft-spoke, serene and humble. He's always willing to put others in front of himself and doesn't hesitate to put himself in harms way to protect others.
Tormented by his past as an assassin, Kenshin developed an acute appreciation for life and has vowed never to kill again which is shown in his sword, the Sakabato (Reverse-blade sword. The sharp end of the blade is on the wrong side so it can't really kill people, just hurt them a little). He only draws his sword for the sake of others, when words wont get through to the bad guys. Kenshin freely accepts that any grudges against his past self are well-deserved; he remembers the face of every person he has wronged as the Hitokiri BattÅsai and will face their hatred or judgment without complaint, believing that he does not deserve the same happiness as others. . Having lived his own life carrying heavy regrets, Kenshin is reluctant to judge others for their personal actions, beliefs or mistakes and always offers hopeful encouragement so that those who have stumbled onto the wrong path might redeem themselves in the future.
However, when forced to draw his sword against those who abuse their power and undervalue the lives of others, Kenshin's calm temperament gives way to a marked intensity capable of intimidating even other skilled swordsmen and can go so far as to become a powerful fury, despite his compulsion toward diplomacy. Sometimes when up against a tough foe, Kenshin's kind-hearted side can be replaced by his 'Battosai' side. - Originally named Shinta, he was born towards the end of the Edo period of Japan in 1849. He lost his parents to Cholera at the age of 7 and was sold into slavery. The slaver-traders wagon he was on was attacked by bandits one night who killed everyone except Shinta, who was saved by a swordsmanship teacher named Seijuro Hiko XIII. Seijuro renamed him Kenshin, which translates into 'Sword heart', a more fitting name for his new student. After a couple years of being under Seijuro's guidance, Kenshin's wish to protect people with his sword caused him to abandon his master and his training. He is soon hired by a Choshu clan to be an assassin and is sent to Kyoto to help in the current war by killing the Shoganate's enemies, which included a group called the Shinsengumi. Within 6 months of his career as an assassin, he kills over 100 people, which earned him the name, Hitokiri Battosai, Battosai the manslayer. He comes face to face, eventually, with a woman named Tomoe, who originally wants to avenge the death of her fiance, whom Kenshin had killed, but eventually she fell in love with him. They acted as a married couple to hide the fact that Kenshin was an assassin and they flee to a remote village. Sometime later, Tomoe met with the leader of a group who planned to assassinate Kenshin and realised that they had used to to create Kenshin's weakness. Kenshin searched for his wife and was ambushed by members of the group and, although he managed to defeat them, he is severely wounded. Eventually he found Tomoe and the leader of the group and fights the leader. In a desperate attempt to defeat the leader, Kenshin blindly swings his sword, killing both his assailant and Tomoe, who jumps in at the last minute to save Kenshin from a fatal attack. Tomoe's knife flies into the air and coincidentally slashes Kenshin's already scarred cheek, creating the famous X-shaped scar across his left cheek. Following the death of Tomoe, Shishio replaces Kenshin in his role as assassin, and Kenshin is reassigned as a guerrilla swordsman protecting the Imperialists. After the end of the Bakumatsu, Kenshin leaves Kyoto and begins life as a wanderer, swearing never to kill again.
